Progressing to the professional level, the CCNP certification involves completing two exams: a core exam and a concentration exam within your chosen technology domain.
Recertify! What Needs to be done?
Cisco certifications are valid for three years, and professionals must recertify before they expire to maintain their active status. Here’s how you can recertify:
1. Through Exams
- Certification Exams: Pass any exam related to your current certification or a higher-level certification.
- For example:
- If you hold a CCNA, you can recertify by passing another CCNA exam or a CCNP exam.
- For a CCNP, you can recertify by passing a CCNP or CCIE exam.

- Participate in professional development activities, such as official Cisco courses, webinars, or events.
- These activities earn you Continuing Education (CE) credits, which can be used to recertify.
- Examples of CE credit requirements:
- CCNA: 30 CE credits.
- CCNP: 80 CE credits.
- CCIE: 120 CE credits.
3. A Combination of Both
- You can combine exams and CE credits to meet the recertification requirements.
What Happens If You Don’t Recertify?
- If your certification expires, you will lose your active status and need to restart the certification process by passing the required exams again.
